Q.

What should I wear?

A.

Dress as if you were going for a walk in the woods: hiking boots or sneakers, and be aware that, for morning flights, the ground can be wet from the dew; jeans or long pants; a comfortable shirt and jacket, appropriate for the season; and a hat, the burner generates a lot of heat.

Q. How high do you go?
A. Typically, we fly anywhere from treetop level to about 3,000 feet.

Q. Is it cold up there?
A. Only if it is cold on the ground. The temperature decreases with height but not enough that you would notice in the balloon.

Q. Is it windy in the balloon?
A. No. We will be moving with the wind so you won’t feel the breeze at all.

Q. Can I bring a camera?
A.

Please don’t forget your camera! A camera or a camcorder is a must for any balloon flight. Bring a small equipment bag and listen out for the pilotŐs instructions for stowing your equipment for landing.

Q. What happens if the weather causes cancellation?
A.

All flights are made wind and weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, we will reschedule you for another day. If we cancel a flight for weather or any reason within our control there are no charges and passengers have the option of a full refund or rescheduling. No show passengers or cancellations within 5 days of the scheduled flight will forfeit any deposit or other payments unless their reserved spot is filled by other passengers.

Q. Where do we land?
A.

The pilot will chose a landing site that is large enough to deflate the balloon. Most landowners are happy to see the balloon land, but remember to treat them and their property with the highest respect.

Q. Are there any passenger restrictions?
A.

We carry liability insurance for our operations but to further assure the safety of our operations we will not carry pregnant passengers or anyone we judge to be at high risk because of age, health, or other conditions.

Q. Is the balloon pilot qualified?
A.

Balloon pilots are certified by the FAA, in the same manner as airplane pilots. They must take instruction, pass written and practical tests and be re-examined periodically. Paul Ward, the lead pilot for Britannia Ballooning Adventures, holds American and British pilot certificates and has been safely piloting balloons for more than fourteen years.

Q. What happens after we land?
A.

Once the chase crew arrives, and the balloon is deflated and packed away, we will return you to the launch field. Allow about three hours from initial arrival at the launch field.

Q. How far in advance do I need to make a reservation?
A.

If you are looking to reserve a specific date, an early reservation is essential. We can sometimes accommodate a last minute reservation, but you can’t count on it.
